With so many wonderful cafes and brunch spots in the Richmond area, how do you stand out and keep customers coming back?

While there is no one answer, Bridge Road café, Touchwood, sure are doing something right, because their indoor and outdoor areas are always brimming with hungry clientele.Touchwood1

The broad menu has everything from pretty superfood salads to meaty and tasty burgers, meaning there is something for everyone, which may be the answer to their popularity.

The menu is carefully designed to create a consistently high standard for Touchwood diners, using local and seasonal produce, free-range eggs and bacon. A spokesperson for Touchwood says “we have a great relationship with all our suppliers as they work very hard to source us the freshest ingredients possible”.

“We also hand select our produce when possible: going to markets to see, feel and taste the freshest seasonal herbs and vegetables.”

As Melbournians, we love to ‘eat with our eyes,’ so plating and meticulous attention to detail is also always a priority for Touchwood’s head chef Tristan White, formerly of Ladro.

“We are lucky to have so many great choices of places to dine in Melbourne, but we believe that what sets Touchwood apart from our many neighbouring cafes, is that we strive for creativity and consistency and we offer our diners unique menu options,” says the spokesperson.Touchwood2

“It’s all about providing a combination of flavours that work best together. Nutrition and health is also a priority, whilst aiming to be unique.”

Touchwood works closely with their coffee supplier, Five Senses, to create their own custom house blend: a combination of Brazillian and Ethiopian beans, which creates a rich and syrupy espresso from custom made Synesso. Their unique coconut cold drip is also always a winner!

According to Five Senses:

“The Synesso Espresso Machine represents the pinnacle of coffee machine design and engineering quality.

“Since it first hit the café scene more than 10 years ago, the Synesso has been constantly evolving and improving

“Five Senses has been proud to have been involved with Synesso since 2008 and over this time has built up an world class service and support network that is unrivalled anywhere in Australia.”

And food-wise, Touchwood’s best sellers are the wholemeal waffles, with topping changes seasonally, the chilli scrambled eggs with bacon, spring onions and manchego cheese on toast and their house ½ pound cheese burger.
