Richmond Club Hotel, The Bridge Hotel, The Terminus Hotel and the Prahran Hotel are some of the most popular venues for a night out in Melbourne. But what if we told you the same company ran them all?
Established in 2000, the Sand Hill Road Group own some of this city’s most iconic, central and celebrated night spots that see lines out the door every Friday and Saturday night.
But it’s not just the first four we mentioned earlier, this hospitality group made up of an awesome foursome of mates also owns and operates Holliava and The Posty on Swan Street. Joining Richmond Club, and The Bridge Hotel, and with Terminus a stone’s throw away on Victoria Street; these guys have basically monopolised the Richmond night scene.
And it doesn’t stop there, this gun group have just recently moved right into the big smoke, securing a comfortable position on Flinders Lane with their new Garden State Hotel.
Garden State is a beautifully open, understated yet sophisticated four level space. Sand Hill Road venues have a tendency to keep sprawling up or out, with a first journey inside almost feeling like a passage of discovery to find the next room, the highest floor, or the secluded space outside you never found last time you were there.
Garden State is no different; upon first entry you are greeted with a giant central bar with service access all around – it’s a wonder they hire bar staff and not magicians to serve everyone in good speed! From there, the location just expands and transforms before your eyes; as you look out into an atrium with low hanging pendant lights, exposed brick and balconies looking down into the split level centre of the venue.
A few steps further down and visitors will find themselves in a dark, moody lower bar area that is intimate and a little bit secret. It’s only steps away from the well-lit open atrium area, yet it feels like you’re in another venue, the only recurring theme is the cool and low-key undertones felt throughout every Sand Hill Road location.
Garden State Hotel is industrial, urban and refined; it is purely Melbourne and is already an extremely popular venue in its short time since opening. Like all venues owned by the Sand Hill Road Group, it caters to an eclectic mix of people. One visit on a Saturday evening can see post-footy crowds, city dwellers sharing a night cap, or girl squads dressed to the nines for a bit night out. While there can sometimes be a wait to get into their venues, we promise it’s worthwhile for everyone once inside.
