I recently checked out Treehouse Lounge Café and Bar in Balaclava and was extremely impressed by the food and coffee.
As someone who appreciates nutritious but also really tasty food, I was happy to check out a local café (where I can also grab a drink after 5pm!).
Treehouse is a joint venture of husband and wife Greg and Georgia Poliwodzinski who have over 25 years between them working in food.
The Poliwodzinski’s say their mission is “to enrich the lives of those who enter the front door – whether it be for a quick coffee or a lengthy stay – with friendly genuine service and standout dishes”.
“There is a strong support for all things local, and this is very important to everyone involved in the Treehouse story. From the wine list, to the local musicians, staff uniforms and of course the quality produce used in the kitchen – there is a sense of pride in supporting the small businesses.”
Sadly, given the early hour, it was an alcohol free visit for me where I ordered the smashed avocado, which came topped with quinoa, sweet corn, pomegranate seeds, mint, coriander, feta on top of multigrain and all for $15.90.
It was amazing to look at, unlike some smashed avocados that seem like half an avocado upended onto a slice of bread, and the serve was extremely generous. The only slight negative I could find was the avocado was plain and not seasoned itself however this was so negligible it is almost not worth mentioning!
Treehouse Lounge Café and Bar does not seem to have fallen into the trap of other venues that try to “do it all”. There was a genuine sense of passion and pride in not only the food and drinks, but the vibe of the place. It would be a pleasure to go back for drinks and tapas, and enjoy some local music soon while the weather is still warm.
