The Great Australasian Beer SpecTAPular in Melbourne on Saturday 23rd May 2015 was an event to be remembered (or not!).
The Royal Exhibition Building in Carlton was decked out with over 120 craft beers especially brewed for the avid beer-drinkers to go nuts over. Upon entry, all patrons received a beer glass and a list of all the beers on offer and their descriptions. You were able to purchase full glasses of beer or pick up one of the tasting paddles to get an introduction of up to five beers. The hall was divided into different areas based on types of beer such as lager and dark ales as well as amazing local food!
I did my best to try as many of the 120 beers as we could, including those that tasted like chilli, smoke, cherries and even extreme flavours like bacon! And to help us see straight, as we walked out the door we had lobster mac-and-cheese balls and a pulled-pork sandwich, which were both insanely good!
Shout-out from us to Cheeky Monkey Brewery and their ‘Death Dancer’ dark ale and to Dennis Beer Co. for their cheekily named ‘Fat Freddy Got Finger-Limed,’ as they topped our list for the day. The whole event exuded a great atmosphere and gave beer-lovers a chance to taste a huge range of beers that would otherwise be out of most people’s price range. So for those of you in Sydney, try and get your ticket for the 30th of May 2015 and sorry to everyone else, but you’ll have to wait for next year!
