Jumping Juniper Berries! London’s biggest gin party, Junipalooza is coming to Melbourne for the first time this month, and boy are we excited!
A celebration of all things Gin, Junipalooza Melbourne will be held at Meat Market over two days, showcasing more than 25 distillers from around Australia, with a few international guests.
Junipalooza is a Meet the Maker show, and invites gin lovers to come and meet the distillers of their favourite spirit and learn more about their craft while sampling the product; think of it like wine tasting, but instead of a cellar it’s a distillery door.
The brains behind the operation are Olivier and Emile Ward from Gin Foundry, who started Junipalooza in London three years ago. With the help of The Gin Queen’s Caroline Childerley, the Ward boys say they are super excited to bring the Juniverse down under, and “geek out” with Aussie gin lovers at the event.
It’s also a perfect opportunity for ginsmiths to meet each other and discuss their different styles, talk shop and network with one another.
What’s great about this craft drink world is the competition is left at the door; the creators are just happy to share their craft and meet others that love it the same way. We saw this for craft beer at this year’s GABS Festival; there was a great camaraderie amongst brewers, we imagine it will be the same for Gin Distillers at Junipalooza.
As well as serving up charming cocktails, there will also be a dedicated masterclass area, which is free for guests to check out. Running for about 20 minutes a piece and hosted by a range of gin makers, the masterclasses will help you understand your poison a little better, before you head off and buy one of each bottle from every distiller.
It is important we mention you pace yourself too, it’s not a race and with a lot of gin to try, you can counter that by drinking plenty of water, and also checking out the mixer and soft drink range from the cool kids at Capi.
We cannot wait to explore the Juniverse at this upcoming event! Junipalooza will be held at Melbourne’s Meat Market on October 22-23. Tickets are still available, head to the Gin Foundry website to purchase or find out more about the event.
