Adrian Portelli is the founder of new restaurant deals app, Ticker, which launches today in Melbourne.
Trading Plates caught up with him to learn about how diners can get the best deals around town and how restaurants can get their name out there to customers – all for free!
Portelli has been working in LA for the last three years on Ticker and has brought the idea back to Melbourne to launch.
“The concept is a completely free app, we don’t charge the businesses and we don’t charge the users.
“We have deals for total percentage off a bill, free entrees, drinks, desserts all sorts of different deals. All these deals are on a timer and refreshing every day in real time.
“If a restaurant chooses to offer a deal it will be up for between one and eight hours, so you have that time to walk into the restaurant and activate the coupon.
“So, we are keeping it fresh and interesting and promoting restaurants but allowing customers to indulge and get a discount at the same time.”
There are no membership fees to sign up to Ticker and in the future users will be able to follow restaurants, so each time a restaurant puts a deal up, followers will be sent a notification.
At the moment, Ticker signs up restaurants and does all the administrative work for them
“Restaurants will give us between two and four deals that they want to offer and rotate between and we do all the administrative work from our end. It is easy for them, with no contracts or sign ups. We make a profile for them and do everything,” explains Portelli.
“It only takes two clicks of a button to activate a deal. Something like Groupon it is very complicated to activate a deal.
“There are 12 to 15 steps, there are credit cards involved, payment through the app, you have to print out the confirmation and people don’t think three days ahead to book dinner for a Friday!
“What we do is instant, you walk in, click two buttons and you’ve got your deal,” says Portelli.
Ticker launches on the 30/10/15 and is available for both iOS and Android users.
