Looking for a protein kick to boost energy and keep your diet in check? Juliana Mare shares her review for the delicious Naked range by Aussie Bodies.

It really puts your mind at ease when you can actually see all the ‘healthy bits’ in your protein bar. “Real food smooshed together” is an entirely appropriate slogan for the Naked range by Aussie Bodies.

It’s a double dose of satisfaction knowing you’re eating a healthy, replenishing snack that’s full of fresh, real ingredients opposed to the artificial garbage that some supplement products contain.

Aussie Bodies have chosen some fitting flavour combos for the Naked range. Anything with pistachios is a winner in my book so the Pistachio, Cranberry and Cacao Nibs bar caught my attention.

Cranberries are such a sweet fruit and you can actually see the berries when you unwrap the bar. Giving a sweet and tangy flavour, the craberry offsets the heavyness of the cacao and protein nicely, making this flavour rich, sweet and decadent. This flavour is the standout of all three!

You get a decent crunch in every bite from the ground pistachios and chia seeds. As with the entire Naked range, the chew-factor is pretty high and the bar will leave an oily residue on your fingers, which I assume comes from the coconut oil.

The Macadamia, Almond & Cashew bar didn’t pack as much of a flavour punch as the Pistachio one, which was disappointing. All the nuts seem to take on a similar flavour when “smooshed together” so there weren’t any surprising tastes when I took a bite.

That being said, there were plenty of ground nuts within the bar, so well done Aussie Bodies on giving us a decent amount of everything that’s actually listed in the ingredients.

Coconut is such a strong flavour so it was quite surprising that this ingredient wasn’t overly potent in the Almond, Coconut & Cacao bar. There’s a generous sprinkle of toasted coconut on top, which looks delicious but the coconut flavour seems to only really come through as an aftertaste.

It’s a great flavour that goes perfectly with almond and cacao – I just wish there was more of it throughout the bar, more than just a garnish on the outside.

Of all three flavours, I found this one to also be quite dry and chewy. The cacao tastes great but there’s an unmistakable undertone of protein powder that comes through.

In fact, one thing I noticed about all three bars was how strong the protein flavour was.

There are plenty of other superfoods but with Whey Protein Concentrate and Whey Protein Isolate on the ingredients list, it’s impossible ignore that protein aftertaste after every bite.

It’s not unpleasant by any means but if you prefer a more subtle protein taste, go for Aussie Bodies Protein FX Lo Carb Crunchy Fibre Bars. The Honey Almond is filled with delicious honeycomb nuggets on the inside which completely masks the flavour of the protein.

Each Naked bar comes in between 120-130 calories and contains 8.2g protein, making it a great post-workout snack to fill you up and keep you energised. If you’re keeping your macros in check though, watch out for the carbohydrates, which come in slightly higher than the protein at 10g.

Nonetheless, it’s impressive how much goodness Aussie Bodies have packed into a natural, gluten free and high protein snack!
