Melbourne foodies and hospo workers boogied on down to Foresters Bar and Dining this week to celebrate the best of Melbourne’s pub scene.
We raised our pints to pubs in 11 categories, including Best Pub which went to Carlton establishment The Lincoln.
“The Lincoln looks like an old pub, and feels like an old pub, but inside our pub of the year you’ll find ace beers, seriously delicious wines and counter meals that are a cut above,” said Emily Lloyd-Tait, Time Out Australia’s Food and Drink Editor.
“This is the new standard that Melbourne pubs should strive for, melding the old ways and the new to create a perfectly harmonious environment where the great Aussie pastimes of beer, banter and footy sit side by side with high quality dining that doesn’t take itself too seriously.”
No surprises that stalwart rock venue, The Tote, was the worthy winner of this year’s Legend Award .
“I have no doubt that at least half the people in this room tonight have spent some big nights in the beer-soaked bandroom of this Collingwood institution,” said Time Out Melbourne Editor, Rose Johnstone , on announcing the award.
The awards were judged by Time Out’s team of independent critics except for the two People’s Choice awards, which were voted on by the public on the Time Out Melbourne website.
In true pub form, the awards were hosted by Mrs Smith, a well-loved pub trivia host who is a familiar face to anyone that has indulged in such a night out in the past two decades.
More than 300 party-goers made their way to Forester’s to enjoy plenty of booze and snacks such as rabbit pie, pizzas, lamb cigars, spring rolls and polenta – they may not be traditional pub grub, but they sure were tasty!
