Trading Plates recently launched a brand new initiative, the Trading Plates Foodie Tour.

The day consisted of a group of hungry and thirsty food-lovers entrusting their day of dining to us at Trading Plates HQ.

We recommended them a series of places to try a whole range of food and drinks for a big day out and off they went!

To kick-start what was sure to be a long and busy day, a good coffee was a must for the first stop. Our foodie crew headed to Aunty Pegs, the boutique coffee roasting of Proud Mary Coffee. With milk being a dirty word at Aunty Peg’s, a smorgasboard of filtered and espresso coffee was enjoyed by all, before it was off to the brunch stop.

For Melbourne brunch lovers, it is hard to go past Top Paddock, the stalwart of the Melbourne morning scene. Eggs, bacon, breakfast greens, pancakes, coffees, juices and more were consumed, before it was time to take a stroll and digest before afternoon tea.

A good dessert is hard to pass up, and when talking desserts in Melbourne it is hard to go past Om Nom dessert bar at the Adelphi Hotel. Head chef Christy Tania is well-known in the Melbourne pastry scene, but also from her stints on Masterchef Australia. Let’s just say the desserts, in presentation and taste, are certainly worthy of a masterchef!

A little more digesting and the group was off to enjoy a pre-dinner tipple at Eau-de-Vie, a suave, speakeasy cocktail bars, tucked down one of Melbourne’s quintessential laneways. If you haven’t been there before, let’s just say that it is all about the pantomime of the beverage and is worth a look…

Finally the day/ night extravaganza ended with a huge meal at Taxi Kitchen in the iconic Federation Square. Slow roasted meat, beautiful share plates of roasted vegetables and exquisite desserts (coupled with some fine wine) was the perfect way to cap off a great day of eating in drinking.
