When the business owners of 121 Flinders Lane decided they wanted to open a restaurant, they wanted Italian food, and Italian food done exceptionally well.
Enter WOODY.P, the place to be in Melbourne at the moment for fun, casual but quality Italian cuisine.
When deciding on a name for the restaurant, WOODY.P communications coordinator, Anna Milverton, said the owners didn’t want anything generic or similar to the range of restaurants throughout Melbourne.
“WOODY.P has been painted as a bit of a character, and this is exactly what the owners want you to think. WOODY.P is ‘whoever you want him to be’,” explains Milverton.
Clint Camilleri is the head chef at WOODY.P. He has an impressive culinary history having working extensively in kitchens throughout rural Victoria, including The Healesville Hotel, The Lakehouse Daylesford, Eleonore’s Restaurant in the Yarra Valley and Royal George Hotel in Kyneton.
When creating the menu for WOODY.P, he says he wants to stay true to rich, Italian flavours without replicating traditional dishes.
It caters to a broad range of diners, staying true to Italian flavours but with modern execution techniques.
“Our menu changes quite often due to seasonality,” says Camilleri.
“At the moment we make changes every month and we also like to keep it interesting for repeat clientele.
“Currently the most popular dish on the menu is the confit pork belly, citrus, fennel, radicchio with nduja dressing – which is on the piccolo (small plate) section on the menu.”
If you have never been to WOODY.P before, Camilleri recommends trying the cured New Zealand king salmon with pastrami spice, avocado, horseradish yoghurt and fennel or the confit pork belly as mentioned above.
Or anything really – it is all pretty great!
